Easy wallet access at touring stops: checks before choosing a leg bag

For a bag used during touring breaks, separate the checks for fastening before riding from the steps for taking out your wallet after stopping.

You may not want to open a large bag at every fuel or rest stop. Even so, check your seated posture and a position that avoids contact with the bike before deciding where to put your wallet.

Choose the essentials for breaks, then examine the fastening method

Lay out your wallet, keys, phone and other small items used during breaks. Adding many things you will not use while riding increases weight, so narrow them down with the order of access in mind.

O is a leg bag secured with waist and thigh belts; H is a type used with your own belt. Both are named waist bags, but they are supported differently on the body.

Check with your actual clothing and while stationary

Jacket and trouser thickness affects fit. Check adjustment ranges, fasteners and loose belt ends, and consider a position that does not obstruct sitting or putting a foot down while stationary.

A securing belt does not guarantee protection in a fall or prevent the bag from coming off. Do not open it while riding; prioritize clearance from riding controls and the bike.
